Smokey & Pumpkin Part Company: #2 Newark, NJ

Smokey & Pumpkin
Smokey couldn't do it alone - and a lot of people helped get Smokey to safety. Smokey even had a "buddy" during most of the ride - a heartworm positive golden named Pumpkin who was going to her forever home in Newburgh NY. We'd like to thank them all here:

  • Christie who helped set up a vet for us in Little Rock, AR.
  • Gary of Last Chance Arkansas who transported Smokey to Pleasant Valley Veterinary Clinic.
  • Pam of Pleasant Valley Veterinary Clinic, Little Rock, AR - who found boarding room for Smokey even though they were full. Also the vets and staff who spent a lot of time, work and play on Smokey.
  • Gina of No Chance Arkansas who was Smokey's guardian angel throughout this ordeal. Gina also overnighted Smokey in order to get up extremely early (4 am) to transport Smokey to Memphis to catch his next ride on Saturday, December 6th, 2003 at 9 am. She also picked up Pumpking for transport to Memphis. Thanks to Gina's husband also for his support and patience.
  • Phyl and the Memphis Area Golden Retriever Rescue and their Canine Underground Railroad. Their volunteers (Phyl, Jennifer, Nancy, Cile & John, Pat, Lisa, Stacey - who also overnighted, Nancy and Bob) who transported Smokey & Pumpkin from Memphis, TN to Newark, NJ.
  • Pumpkin and Smokey parted ways here - she was off to her forever home in Newburgh NY with Eileen.
  • Smokey was picked up by Taylor of Fauna Rescue, Inc. in Newark and transported to Bridgeport, CT.
  • Linda picked up Smokey in Bridgeport and transported Smokey to Fauna Rescue, Inc. in Nashua, NH. They arrived at 1:30am Monday, December 8th, 2003.
  • Smokey's new vet: Dr. Kilgore of Littleton Animal Hospital.
  • Dr. Brown of Littleton Animal Hospital that examined Smokey's current records while he was in Little Rock.
Additionally I do not want to forget those who assisted in trying to get Smokey home. They either made phone calls, spammed friends and family, offered plane fare, transport on some legs, made donations or were generally supportive:
  • Christina and her cousin Jill, Chicago, IL
  • Denise, Pontiac, MI
  • Owen, Manchester, NH
  • Lynda, New Jersey
  • Louise, Whiting, NJ
  • Linda, Osaka, Japan & Nashua, NH
  • Susan, Rowley, MA
  • Peggy, Champaign, IL
  • Donna, Lexington, MA
  • Lisa, New Jersey
  • Betty, North Carolina
  • Lisa, Pennsylvania
  • Danielle, Atlanta, GA
  • Carol, Susan, Jan, Bonnie, Peggy, Amy, and anyone else that helped - if I missed a name, please let me know!!
